Party, football - these are some of the things that first come to one's mind at the thought about Latin America. But on the night of March 11th, 2004, when they hosted the 7th CID, the Latino Americans at Jacobs/IUB proved that there is a lot more to this. They staged a carefully prepared and very well structured event, which started with a song, followed by the traditional opening speech by Prof. Boehnke. The performance was organized around participants' discussion on many topics from the life, history and culture of Latin America: pre-Hispanic history, Spanish Conquest, economic development before and after that, football, language issues, bull-fights,... Supported by a live music band and interrupted by musical, dance or theatrical performances, those discussion were both informative and entertaining. The events, as always, finished with the serving of fine food, typical for this region. Well done, Latinos!
