Turkey 2008

turkie cid 003The Turkish Country Information Day as the first and only CID in winter semester 2008 took place on the 6th November, 2008 and surprised the Jacobs community in a special way. The small Turkish community on campus worked together on presenting a country that we can all either identify with or find our roots in.

The event started with a presentation about the general information about the country known to be somewhere between Orient and Occident, its most beautiful places and sights as well as turkie cid 021some audience-tutoring with some basic language skills (“Bir Döner, lütfen!”).
A peppy photo slideshow of Turkish faces followed afterwards and exhibited how diverse and different Turks can look like apart from the cliché!

The main part of the CID was then the funny and improvised seeming play depicting two different Turkish families and their crazy problems accepting their kids’ marriage. Typical living room situations were shown which made the audience laugh as well as a pre-marriage henna night, which was honored by famous Turkish singer Tarkan. After the celebration of the colorful henna night, all people enjoyed a short presentation on delicious Turkish food. Finally, FINALLY people also got the chance to taste what they had seen.
All in all, the CID was a successful event which made the Jacobians feel Turkish for a couple of hours.

Turkey- you can either eat it or visit it. Photos of this wonderful event can be found here.
