Ethiopia 2009

Thursday, 12th February - The common room of Mercator college was once again alive with traditional dresses, dances and excited people. This time, it was the East African nation of Ethiopian that was showcasing its rich abundance of tradition and energetic dances. This is the second time that the Ethiopians on campus have held a CID.IMG_8416
As could be seen from the very beginning, the Ethiopians spent countless hours in their busy schedules to make this CID a success. The dancing, the music, the slide shows - everything was top notch as they led the anticipating crowd and three 'bandits' through the heart of the nation. Meeting different people on their journey, the three bandits (and the crowd) got transported into the way of life of many different parts of this vast country.
IMG_8460It was not long before the first dancing performance of the evening came. The amazing shake of the shoulders by the agile Ethiopians caught the eye of the audience. "It was as if they had boneless shoulders!","Can anyone tell me how they do that?", were just some of the comments that could be heard amid the appreciative claps as the dance concluded.

The evening could not get any better when Abdul Mudesir announced that it was time to head to the canteen for the food. The server y quickly filled with an enthusiastic crowd of people waiting to taste the cooking of the Ethiopians - and they were not disappointed!
