| Transition: A new beginning |
 After more than four years of dedicated service, long sleepless nights with students, almost two dozens of CIDs and many memorable moments, our first and beloved college masters Mandy and Klaus Boehnke are leaving Mercator College. Our new College Masters, Vikram Unnithan and Nicole Brauch are taking over the hard, but rewarding position with great enthusiasm and energy. The transition of the Mercator leadership was marked with a small ceremony at the Mercator Servery on February 17th 2007.The ceremony was moderated by two alumnae, Przemek Borkowski (the first college office assistant at Mercator College), Ravi Rathnam and Mkhokeli Mhlanga, a current student and college office assistant. The ceremony began with a speech of the President of Jacobs University, Prof. Dr. Joachim Treusch. The president was followed by the GSA and the Student Government who expressed their gratitude to the outgoing College Masters and took the opportunity to wish much success and a pleasant stay to Prof. Unnithan and Mrs. Brauch at Mercator College. Klaus and Mandy Boehnke were also presented with a certificate of their Honorary Membership in Mercator College and a gift from the students.  The speeches were then followed by a musical interlude, which consisted of performances by Konstantin Mihov and Julia Klotz. The culmination of the ceremony was the ceremonial presentation of the key of Mercat  or College by the outgoing College Masters to the new College Masters. The key is the symbol of the great responsibility and the great challenge of being College Masters.At the end the outgoing and the new college masters were given the floor to address the guests. Prof. Boehnke and Mrs. Boehnke summarized their service at the college, trying to highlight all the good and not so good experiences that they made during their fifty months at Mercator. Following them, Prof. Unnithan and Mrs. Brauch greeted their new family away from home and expressed their enthusiasm and hopes for the future of Mercator College.
