St. Patrick's Day 2008

stpatrick 128If you are a football fan like the humble webmaster of this site, you could have thought that on Monday, 17th March, the Mercator Common Room was hosting a Werder Bremen Supporters Club's meeting of some sort - green and orange all around - even green lights, cheerful shouting, crate after crate of beer pouring its precious content into thirsty, unquenchable throats... Well, almost you would have been right. At least for the Bremen part, that is. What was going on in fact was the (already) traditional St. Patrick celebration in Mercator. Stepping firmly on two of the fundaments of the (stereotypical) Irish culture - drinks and dances, the event attracted a large portion of the campus inhabitants, who had not left for the spring break. Guinness and Kilkeny was distributed, along with Irish coffee (the one with the whiskey inside ;-)) and Irish stew. An energetical, inspired dance instructor was trying hard to teach the enthusiasts at least the basic steps of those wonderful Irish dances you have watched in awe on the TV, and riding on the wings of this wonderful holiday atmosphere, the event easily stretched to almost midnight.

Some of the pictures carrying at least a tiny bit of the spirit of Ireland can be found here.
