Martisor 2009

Red and white strings were the theme of the evening. The annual East Euorpean celebration of the coming of Spring saw lot of people pack the Mercator College office on saturday, 28th February for the Martenitsa workshop. Some people seemed lost at first, with many of them not having a clue of how to begin making a Martisor. Thanks to the very helpful and patient eastern Europeans, the situation quickly improved and later in the evening most people had managed to make fancy stuff with the strings.

Martisor (Martenitsa in Bulgaria) is the name of a talisman object consisting of a small decoration tied to a white and red string, symbolizing the coming of spring. The gift is given so that the one who wears it will be healthy and powerful for the year to come.
