RA on duty

While walking through Mercator College in the late evening, you will occasionally run into one of your Resident Associates or College Masters. No, they are not stalking you! They are simply on their evening round, making sure everything in the college is OK. This is only one part of being on duty.

In Mercator, both College Masters and Resident Associates are on duty, usually one week per month for each person or couple. Their tasks during these 7 days, apart from the already mentioned evening rounds, include taking calls on the emergency phone and responding to small- and large-scale emergencies appropriately. So, if you lock yourself out of your room or you are feeling ill and do not know what to do or there is excessive noise next door and your neighbor does not respond to your requests to turn it down or even if there is any other situation which you feel is beyond your control, please just dial 5301 and the RA or CM on duty will help.

Please keep in mind that your RAs and CMs have regular daily jobs here at Jacobs University and, while in general they will pick up the phone at any time during the day or night, they might not be able to act right away if you catch them in the middle of a work meeting or a lecture they are teaching. In such cases, they will direct you to somebody who can react sooner, and all will be well soon enough.Smile

In case of life-threatening situations, you should call Campus Security (4800) directly and only afterwards, if the situation permits, inform the on-duty personnel by telephoning 5301!
