Personal Statement Fellow Mercatorians, Allow me to thank you all for having put your trust in me and elected me to represent you in the students’ parliament. Now that you have voted me into the parliament, it’s time that you play the guitar and I sing the song, and together we can make good music for Mercator as well as our university in general. As mentioned during my campaigns, I am an enthusiastic and dedicated person who enjoys being part of, as well as leading, a successful and productive team. Knowing that our main objective here is to succeed, not only in education, but also in the other spheres of life, I hope that together as a team, we can work towards these goals. In addition to that, I have had an opportunity of studying and living in different countries other than my own country. This has given me a unique intercultural background, which subsequently gave me good experience in dealing with different types of people at different levels, and developed certain qualities and skills that range from multicultural diversity and openness, to the leadership involved with being a former school head prefect. Given all these qualities combined together, I hope to use them to contribute appreciably to different spheres of Jacobs University. Most importantly – as was mentioned in my campaigns – one of my main goals is to strengthen communication and cooperation among students, faculty and our university administration by: ensuring that all students’ concerns are forwarded to the respective officials updating and involving students in all decisions of the administration that have an impact on the students’ lives. in cases where students are not satisfied with the way a course is being conducted, pave away for them to easily influence changes that would suit the parties concerned. providing students with a central source of accurate information, regarding all available on and off campus students’ services. In addition to that, I am hoping to explore the possibility of improving the quality of our meals, which – from what I have been hearing – is one of the biggest concerns that many students have. That being said, if any of you ever encounters any problem that you think needs to be addressed to the student parliament, or be in a situation that you think I can be of any help, feel free to drop me an email, call me or drop by room (MB236). I believe that with your cooperation coupled with my ears ready to listen, we can make Jacobs University an even a better place, not only for ourselves, but also for those that will come after us. Thank you. Your Students’ Parliament Representative. Musafiri Sebiziga |
