Misa Aleksic

misaGood Day!

My name is Misa Aleksic and I have a fascination for miniature camels. Camels the size of a mug. Not toys though or plastic decorations but real live miniature camels. Camels you can put on your desk and watch as they walk their amusing walk…and chew! Sadly, they do not exist…YET.

Yeah. So.

My name is Misa (Mi: sha) and I’ve had trouble with it most of my life except back home in Serbia and now at Jacobs. I don’t really remember why I didn’t add an ‘h’ to the English transliteration of my name, but that one missing ‘h’ has made my life a tad more complicated albeit a whole lot more amusing. Many have tried to figure it out on their own and I’ve been called a range of names including but not limited to Misha (with a very short ‘i’ sound), Missa, Miza, Meesa, Milosh and Misho. My name has also given quite a number of people who had never met me the impression that I am a girl, which was kind of irritating at first but, being an optimist, I decided to attempt applying to several all-girl colleges and put my name to good use :D. It didn’t work :(.

2Though I may not, to my knowledge, need a pie chart to represent my ethnicity like some people at JUB, I might need one to represent my whereabouts over the past 18 (almost 19) years because I have never spent more than 5 consecutive years in any country I lived in. Born in Syria, raised in Serbia and Kuwait, personalised in India and now visiting, during the holidays, my parents and older sister who currently live in Egypt, my life has been full of amazing experiences, awesome food and, most importantly, great friends with whom I fail to stay in touch because of my chronic laziness. However, life’s not always been fun and games: there was a lot of adjusting, changing schools, changing languages, learning and relearning but I would go through it again a billion times for all the good stuff that came along.

7From childhood, I have been interested in music. I didn’t have much of a chance to take music lessons as a child and my two years of Piano in 12th and 13th (i.e. 11th and 12th) grade weren’t very productive due to the other distractions and responsibilities of the last two years of high school (namely studies, college apps. and the #1 distraction: girls). Nonetheless, I have always been able to express my interest in music through singing. To my delight, one of the first things I saw when I reached campus, after my first flight had been delayed making me miss my connection, was the J Capella poster on the front door of the Interfaith House as I hauled my luggage across the gravel paths of our University. I signed up as soon as I could and have had and continue to have a blast singing in the choir. I’m also trying to learn how to play harmonica.

I am currently a second year Electrical and Computer Engineering student but when I’m not studying or singing, you might find me playing video games, listening to music, cooking, walking, playing Poker, Mah Jong or Billiards and sometimes even playing tennis, basketball or jogging.

Well I’m very honoured to have been selected as a Face of the Month for this awesome college of ours and as a final note I’d like to say: let’s rock this year’s Olympix!

Below are some moments of my life;
